“Sodom and Gomorrah were consumed by fire not merely for their wickedness but because their sin was so grievous. It was a sin that defiled the whole land and could not be overlooked. Let us learn from their fate to avoid the sins that so quickly lead to destruction.” - Saint John Chrysostom, Homily 4 on Romans

*Warning: This chapter involves exactly what you think it does. Though many have tried to sanitize this portion of Scripture through revisionist history to score political points with modern, “progressive” culture, we will take part in no such nonsense today. God’s Word stands forever, and it says what it says. Be strong in the Lord, and don’t ever be ashamed of His perfect Word which is “sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” The world needs truth, not flattery.

  • The two angels leave Abraham and come to Sodom, where Lot welcomes them warmly and invites them to his house to rest for the night. The angels refuse, telling Lot that they will instead spend the night in the town square. Lot, knowing what awaits them, insists that they come to his home, and they oblige.
